Bank mailed the statement as pdf. I tapped it. Phone asked a password. I typed the one from the sms. It opened in the bank app viewer.
Then I dropped the same file on FileOnDesk to count pages before print. Nothing useful. Tool could not read it. I thought the site was broken.
It was not broken. The lock was still on. This tool cannot open a password pdf. We do not guess passwords. We do not try a list. We do not ask you to type the password into our box, because we do not even have that box.
Unlock on your own PC first
Adobe on a Windows PC, or the viewer the bank tells you, that is where you unlock. Print to pdf, or save a copy without security, if your viewer allows it and your office policy allows it.
I am not teaching you how to break a lock you do not own. If it is your statement, you already have the password from the bank. Use that in a real pdf program on a machine you trust. Then bring the unlocked copy to PDF Page Count if you only need the number.
Disclaimer energy, because people skip this part. FileOnDesk is not Adobe. Password files may fail. That is expected. We are a browser tab, not a recovery service.
Do not paste the bank password into random websites that say they remove pdf lock. I will not name them. You have seen the ads. Your file is not uploaded to our server, which is good, and also why we cannot magically strip a password we never receive.
If PDF Page Count shows an error or zero or just sits, suspect a lock. Or a damaged file. Or a file that is not really a pdf, just renamed.
I had a .pdf that was actually a jpg. Page count failed. Rename does not change the inside.
Locked marksheet from some boards, same story. School gave a password in the diary. Open there, print or export, then merge.
Merge PDF also will not eat a locked file as a normal page. Do not drop the locked statement plus the unlocked salary slip and hope. Unlock first, then merge.
20 MB still applies after unlock. A fat unlocked scan can still be too big for the tab.
I work in a small office near the railway in Jaipur. We get this once a week from someone who downloaded the bank pdf on phone and never opened it in a real viewer.
Phone Chrome preview sometimes shows the first page after you typed the password in another app. That preview is not an unlocked file. The file on disk may still be locked. Drop that disk file here, lock is still there.
Save as, from a desktop reader, is the boring fix. Ask the computer person in your office if you are not sure you are allowed to save an unlocked copy. Some companies forbid it. Follow them.
We will not store your password because we never ask. We will not email support a cracked file. There is no such team for that.
What I tell people at the counter
If the tool fails, I ask three questions. Is there a padlock icon when you open it in a normal reader. Did a bank or CBSE or a court portal send it. Did you try page count on a file you yourself exported from Word with no password.
Third one usually works. So the tool is fine. The first file was locked.
Split PDF same limit. Range extract needs to read pages. Lock blocks that.
Rotate PDF same.
I do not put a workaround that looks like hacking. If you forgot the bank password, call the bank. Not us.
Office rumours say some sites brute force. That is a bad idea and not what we built.
If your unlocked file still fails, maybe it is pdf version the library hates, or the file is corrupt. Try another export. Try printing to pdf from the viewer. Still fail, the tab may just not like that file. Disclaimer again. Not Adobe.
Students bring encrypted assignment packets from a coaching portal. I send them back to the portal helpdesk. We are not the coaching IT.
Shop owner brought a locked gst notice. I told him open in the gst mail instructions, save, then use JPG to PDF only if he photographs pages. Photographing a locked pdf on screen is ugly and clerks hate it. Better to unlock properly.
Do not screenshot sixteen pages of a statement to dodge the password. That is messy, easy to leak on WhatsApp, and still your problem if numbers are wrong.
Page count before print, the original job. Once unlocked, drop on PDF Page Count. Number comes. Then you know how much paper to buy.
If count is 14 and you only need page 2 and 3, Split PDF after unlock.
I keep a paper note near the printer. Password pdf, this tool cannot open it. Unlock on PC. We do not guess.
People still drop the locked file twice. Same result twice. The site is not warming up. The lock is the lock.
Safari or Chrome does not matter here. Lock is in the file.
If someone at the cyber cafe offers to unlock for 50 rupees, that is your risk, not FileOnDesk. I would not give a bank pdf to a cafe uncle. That is me. You decide.
After it is unlocked, the rest of this site
Normal tools apply. Merge, split, rotate, jpg to pdf for photos of paper. File Size Checker if the unlocked export came out huge.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. Even the unlocked one stays in the tab. Download and keep it on your disk. Do not leave it on a shared PC.
Shared PC in a PSK or a cyber cafe, delete Downloads when you finish. The tool did not keep a cloud copy. The cafe PC might keep Downloads.
I say this because privacy talk and password talk sit together. People think lock means the website cannot steal it. Lock means our tool cannot read it. A bad cafe can still copy the unlocked save you just made.
Use your own laptop for bank papers if you can.
FileOnDesk is not a government portal and not a bank. We do not reset your pdf password. We do not verify your statement.
If page count works, you probably had an open file. If it fails and the reader on Windows asked a password this morning, you found the reason.
I wasted twenty minutes once before I noticed the lock icon in the title bar of Acrobat. Small icon. Easy to miss. I felt stupid. Then I wrote this so the next person in Ajmer does not sit there hitting refresh.
Refresh will not remove a password. Only a proper save without security, on a program that is allowed to do that, with a password you already own.
