Udaipur, near the clock tower, a shop uncle asked me to help. He had five photos in the gallery. Shop board from the road. Close up of the board. GST bill. Rent receipt. A selfie with the shop because he thought it looks honest. Counter at some office wanted one pdf. Not a WhatsApp dump of five images. One file he can hand on a pen drive or upload.
Gallery is a mess. Screenshots, family photos, the shop board, a blurry one, a good one. He could not find the fifth photo. We sat on a plastic stool. I made one pdf. He looked at me like I did witchcraft. It is not witchcraft. It is JPG to PDF.
This is the weekly job of every small office helper in Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer. Photos live on the phone. The counter wants a pdf. You join them.
Five photos sitting in gallery
First I copy the five into a folder or I keep them in recents so I do not grab a wedding photo by mistake. I have merged a birthday cake into a licence file once. Clerk laughed. I did not.
Order. Board first, close up second, bill, rent, selfie last or maybe selfie out. I asked what the form listed. Shop photo, address proof, bill. Selfie was extra. Extra can annoy. We dropped the selfie. Four photos.
Light. His board photo had a sun flare. We went outside and took one more. Better. The pdf is only as good as the worst photo. I tell people, fix the picture first, then make pdf. Pdf will not sharpen a moving fan blur.
JPG is what the tool likes for this path. Phone photos are jpg. If one is a screenshot png, PNG to PDF or convert. Mixing is ok if you make each into pdf then merge. Simpler: all jpg, one drop on JPG to PDF.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. Shop bills have numbers. Browser is enough.
He asked if WhatsApp compress will ruin it. If we send photos on WhatsApp then download, yes they get softer. I made the pdf on the same phone from original gallery. Then we sent the pdf. Better.
20 MB limit in the browser. Five original camera photos can be 25 mb together. Then the tool complains. Compress Image on each, then jpg to pdf. Quality slider. Board still readable. File under limit. Office happy.
One pdf for the counter
Drop photos in order. Each photo becomes a page. Download. Open. Page 1 should be the board, not the bill. If wrong, arrows or drop again. I check the download name and I rename shop-docs-udaipur.pdf.
Counter may want print. Four pages, one side. He printed at the shop next door. Looked fine. Stamp space on the bill page was clear. Good.
If they want everything on one sheet to save their file, that is a different tool. Images to PDF Grid. 2 by 2 on A4. Four photos on one page. Compact. Harder to read a GST number. I use grid when they said “one page” and the photos are simple. I use one-photo-per-page when numbers matter.
Uncle’s GST bill had tiny print. I did not grid that. Full page. Grid for the two board photos maybe, but mixing is more work. I kept it simple. Four pages.
Kota coaching office collects ID photos of students this way. Five ids, one pdf for the batch folder. Order by roll number if you can. Otherwise they hunt.
Jaipur property dealer. Site photos, 10 of them. One pdf for the client on email. Compress first or email bounces. Same story as the 25 mb bounce. Check with File Size Checker after you make the pdf.
Ajmer hardware shop. Warranty card photos. One pdf to the distributor. They loved it because they could forward one file, not 8 images that arrive in random order in a group.
Password. Photos do not have pdf passwords yet. After jpg to pdf the file is open. Good. Do not lock it unless the office asked. They will not ask.
If a photo is sideways, rotate it in gallery first. Or make pdf and Rotate PDF 90. Whole pdf rotates. So if only one photo is sideways, rotate that photo before dropping. I rotate in gallery. Easier.
Grid if they want all photos on one page
Sometimes the clerk says one page only. Then Images to PDF Grid. Photos sit in a grid. 2 by 2. For a shop board plus three small pics it can work. For a full rent agreement photo, the text dies. I look at the preview in my head. If I cannot read the bill in a small square, I refuse grid. I tell the clerk the bill needs a full page. Sometimes they agree. Sometimes they are stubborn. Then I grid the boards and keep the bill as a second page with Merge PDF. Two page file. Compromise.
Grid is nice for product photos. Four angles of a chair. One page. Email looks neat.
Do not grid 12 photos of the same board. Pick the best two.
Phone Chrome can feel slow with five fat jpgs. Compress first. Close Instagram. Then drop.
If download button sits there grey, you missed a file or the last one is still loading. Wait. If a photo is 12 mb alone, compress it. Do not stare.
I also check page count if I am unsure I dropped five. PDF Page Count. Should say 5. If it says 4, one photo did not go in. Usually a png or a heic. Some phones take heic. Convert to jpg on the phone share sheet if you can, or take the photo again as jpg. FileOnDesk jpg tool wants jpg. Heic is a little villain.
Uncle’s phone was Samsung. Jpg. Peace.
Size and order before you walk in
Before leaving the shop we checked size. 1.8 mb. Fine for most counters. We opened page by page. His thumb was in photo 3. We deleted that from the set, took a new bill photo on the counter, rebuilt the pdf. Two extra minutes. Saved a rejection.
I put the pdf in WhatsApp to himself as a backup. Chat with himself. Old trick. Then the file is in two places.
If the office wants email, we mail from his gmail on the phone. Attach the pdf, not the five photos.
If they want a pen drive, we copied the pdf. Pen drives in Udaipur tourist shops have viruses from 2014. I still copy. I also keep it on the phone.
Order I repeat because it is the thing people mess. Think of the clerk’s list. Photo 1 is list item 1. Not the photo you took last which is on top of the gallery. Gallery top is newest. Newest is often the retake. Newest might be the best board. So newest first can be right. Or wrong. Do not trust gallery order blindly. Select one by one in the sequence you want.
Jaipur municipal, Kota college, Ajmer rto, Udaipur nagar nigam. Same dance. Photos to one pdf. I use JPG to PDF when each page should be one picture. Grid when they want a contact sheet. Compress when the camera is too proud.
Uncle offered me chai. I took it. The pdf was already in his downloads. That is a good office morning.
