Ajmer, a small printer uncle who also makes visiting cards. He had a logo. Designer in Jaipur sent a png. Transparent background. Looks fancy on a website. The government-ish portal for some local listing said invalid format. They wanted jpg. He tried to rename logo.png to logo.jpg. Portal still spat it. Renaming is not converting. The file is still a png in a jpg costume. I have watched this trick fail ten times. I still see people do it.
We converted properly. White background. Jpg. Uploaded. Listing went through. He printed extra cards that week. Maybe related, maybe not.
This is the whole problem. Portals are picky. Designers love png. Forms love jpg. You need a bridge. PNG to JPG is the bridge on this site.
Portal says invalid format
Invalid format can mean many things. Wrong type. Too big. Too many pixels. Password, no that is pdf. For images, type and size are the usual villains.
Read the line. “jpg, jpeg only.” Png will fail. Webp from a phone screenshot will fail. Bmp from some old paint file will fail. They wrote jpg. Give jpg.
Some portals accept png but your png is huge or has transparency they cannot store. They still say invalid. Then jpg with a white background behaves.
I do not fight the portal. I convert.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. A logo is not as private as a marksheet, but it is his brand. Browser convert is fine.
He asked will quality die. A bit. Jpg is lossy. For a logo with flat colours, keep quality slider high. For a photo logo, still high. For a form thumbnail, medium is ok. I start high, check size, drop if needed.
20 MB. A png logo is rarely 20 mb unless it is a poster. If it is a poster, compress after convert. File Size Checker after you have the jpg.
Kota coaching wanted a jpg of their lion logo for an ID card software. Png with no background. The software filled the transparency with black. Lion in a black box. Looked evil. We converted with white. Lion sat on white. ID cards looked like ID cards.
Udaipur hotel. OTA listing. Png logo. They wanted jpg square. We converted, then Image to Square if the box was square. Two steps.
Jaipur startup. Play store listing. That is a different size game. Still they often want png there. This article is the other way. Portal wants jpg. You have png.
Transparent png becomes a white jpg
Jpg has no real transparency. Empty pixels need a colour. This convert fills that with white. Good for most forms. Bad if your logo was meant to sit on a dark banner. For a form, white is what they expect. Like a paper.
If the logo was white lines on transparent, white background will eat the logo. You will see nothing. That is not the tool being evil. That is the logo design. On paper you would need a dark box. For those logos I put them on a coloured rectangle in some other software, or I ask the designer for a version with a dark plate. Rare in small city listings. Most logos are dark letters on transparent. White jpg is perfect.
I drop the png on PNG to JPG. Pick quality. Download. Open. Check the edges. If a grey fringe appears around letters, that was anti-alias on transparent. Usually ok at a distance. If ugly, ask designer for a jpg export. They can do it in one minute. They just sent png because that is their habit.
I name the file shop-logo.jpg not logo-final-final2.jpg. Portal sometimes shows the filename to the public. Be decent.
If they also have a pixel limit, Resize Image after convert. Width in px. Height follows. Do not stretch by hand.
If they have a KB limit, Compress Image on the jpg. Slider. Checker. Upload.
Do not convert png to jpg then back to png hoping for the old transparency. It is gone. Keep the original png in a folder called original. Always.
Quality and size after convert
I check the jpg on a white page and on a grey page in my mind. Form preview is often grey. If the logo has cream colours, cream on white is weak. Still they asked jpg. They get cream on white.
Size. Png of a simple logo can be small. Jpg can be small too. If jpg is bigger than png, quality is too high and the image is a big canvas. Resize the canvas. A 4000 px wide logo for a 200 px upload box is a waste. Resize to something near what they asked. If they did not ask, I use 800 or 1000 px wide for a listing logo. Enough. Not a billboard.
File size checker. If under 500 kb I upload. If they said 50 kb, slider down. Preview. If the lion becomes spots, I stop and I resize smaller first, then compress. Smaller pixels plus gentle quality beats giant pixels plus crush.
Password does not apply. Images. Good.
Phone vs laptop. Uncle did this on the shop computer. Chrome. Mouse. Easier to see the logo edges. Phone also works.
If the portal still says invalid, look at the extension they show in the error. If they say “not a jpeg”, maybe you uploaded the png again. Downloads folder. Two files. Wrong click. I do this. I will do this again.
If they say too big, we already know the path. Checker, compress, resize.
If they say dimensions, resize. Not convert again.
Some Indian portals want .jpeg not .jpg. Same family. If they are very stupid about the letters, you can save and rename .jpeg after a real convert. The bytes are jpeg. Renaming png to jpeg is still a lie. Renaming a real jpg to jpeg is usually ok.
I do not promise every portal. I promise a real jpg with a white background from your png.
If they still reject it
Ask what they want, in writing if you can. Width, height, kb, jpg. Then we match. Guessing wastes a day.
Designer can export jpg from Corel or whatever they use. If uncle cannot reach the designer, our tool is the rescue.
For a stamp-like logo with tiny text, high quality. For a Facebook download png, convert and also check it is not a meme with extra border.
Ajmer listing went live the same afternoon. Logo looked a bit flatter than the png on the website. Nobody at the nagar office cares about flattening. They care that the box accepted the file.
Kota student used this for a fest poster upload that demanded jpg. Same button.
Jaipur cousin had a screenshot png of a logo because she did not have the file. Screenshot, crop, png to jpg. Not perfect. Portal took it. Later she got the real file.
Keep the png. Convert when a form asks jpg. White background. Check size. Upload. That is the job. PNG to JPG and then tea.
