Jaipur, a recruitment form on a government-looking site. I will not name it because they change rules every month. Photo box. I uploaded a phone selfie crop. Rejected. Too many pixels. Or “invalid dimension”. Same pain. My photo was some 4000 px wide from a cheap Android. The form wanted 200 px width. I did not have Photoshop. I do not want Photoshop for a 200 px box.
I typed 200 in Resize Image. Height followed so the face did not stretch. Downloaded. Uploaded. Green tick. I sat back. Ceiling fan. Relief.
This is the most common form fight I see. Students in Kota, hotel staff in Udaipur, a clerk in Ajmer helping his son. Phone cameras are huge. Forms are tiny. You must shrink the pixels, not just the file name.
Phone camera is huge, form wants 200 px
Pixels are the width and height. KB is the weight. Forms mix the two words. “Photo should be 200 x 230 and under 50 kb.” That is both. If you only compress, you might still have 4000 px and they reject. If you only resize, you might still have 800 kb and they reject. Read both lines.
Too many pixels means the width or height is above their max. 200 px width is a small thumbnail. Your face will look ok in that box. It will look soft if you print a banner. You are not printing a banner. You are filling a form.
I do not guess 200. I read the form. If they said 200 x 230, I use a tool that can take both numbers. Passport Photo Resize lets you type width and height. For this article they said 200 width and I used Resize Image which takes width and keeps ratio. If the ratio does not match 200 x 230, the height will not be 230. Then the form may still reject. For exact boxes, type both px on the passport resize tool. For “max width 200”, the simple resize is enough.
We do not claim official government photo sizes as law. We type what that form wrote. Next form writes something else.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. Face photo stays in the browser. I like that more than a random “passport photo maker” with ads.
20 MB. A phone photo can be 8 mb, still under. If it is bigger, compress a bit first so the tab does not freeze, then resize.
Password is a pdf thing. Photo is just a photo. Open it. See your face. Then resize.
Resize without opening Photoshop
Open Resize Image. Drop the jpg. Type 200. Download. Check the result. Windows or phone info should show width near 200. If it still says 4000, you downloaded the original. Wrong file. Happens.
I crop before I resize if there is a lot of wall and ceiling fan in the photo. Forms want a face. Crop on the phone. Then resize. If you resize first, crop later, you might end up with 80 px of face. Too small. Crop, then resize to 200.
Lighting. Jaipur room light is yellow. Forms do not care as much as they care about size. Still, a dark blob at 200 px is a worse blob. Stand near a window. Plain wall. No school batchmates in the background.
Do not screenshot the photo from WhatsApp and use that. WhatsApp already crushed it, then you screenshot, then you resize. Looks like a stamp from 1998. Use the original camera file.
If the form wants jpg and you have png, PNG to JPG first. Then resize.
After resize I check KB with File Size Checker. 200 px photo is usually small. If not, it is a strange format. Compress slider a little.
Kota student had a photo that was 200 px after resize but 2 mb. How? It was a png with a huge colour profile or some nonsense. Convert to jpg, then it was 20 kb. Portal happy.
Udaipur hotel form for a police verification. They wanted small photo. Same steps. His photo had a palm tree. Crop. Resize. Upload.
Ajmer college. They rejected because height was 4000 and width 200 after a wrong crop. He had squeezed it in some app. Faces look like ghosts when you squeeze. Our resize keeps ratio. Use that. Do not drag corners like a monster.
Photoshop is a hammer. This is a nail. Type the width.
Check KB after you change the width
Pixels down, KB usually down. Not always enough if they want 20 kb. Then Compress Image. Preview. If the face becomes patches, stop. Maybe they will take 30 kb. Maybe not. Then crop tighter so there are fewer pixels of wall, resize, compress again.
Checker after every step. I write the numbers on paper. Width 200. Size 38 kb. Form said 50 kb. Good.
If the form said 200 kb, do not crush to 10 kb. Ugly. Stay under the cap with some air.
If upload still fails, look at the error. Dimension vs size vs format. Three different repairs. Resize, compress, convert. Do not do all three in a panic loop without looking.
I keep the original selfie in a folder. I keep the 200 px version named photo-200-form.jpg. Next form might want 300. I go back to original, not to the 200. You cannot add real pixels back. Soft mess if you enlarge.
Night mode photos from phones have noise. At 200 px you may not see it. At 50 kb you might. Turn off beauty filters that melt the nose. Some forms get angry at filters. I do not know their software. I use a plain photo.
What I do if they also want a file size cap
Read both. Resize first to the px they want. Then checker. Then compress if still heavy.
If they want 200 px and 20 kb, it is tight. Plain background helps. Jpg quality down. Preview. If the eye is one pixel, I try 200 x whatever they said with a tighter crop.
Square box? Image to Square pads white. Then resize to the side they asked. Padding can increase empty pixels but they are white, compress well.
I do not use random “200x230” numbers from a WhatsApp forward. I use the form. Forwards are wrong half the time. We do not treat them as law.
Jaipur cyber cafe uncle will sell you Photoshop time. For 200 px it is a waste of money. Browser tool. Two minutes.
If the site uses old Internet Explorer in a government office, upload from that machine after you made the file at home. The office PC may not run our tool well. Make the photo at home. Carry it on a drive. Sit. Upload.
Rejected again? Download their sample if they have one. See the sample width. Match that. Some forms write 200 and mean 200 kb. English on forms is not a novel. Read twice.
I failed once because I typed 2000. Extra zero. Photo still huge. They rejected. I looked at my own number. Fool. Type 200. Look at the downloaded image. It should look small on a laptop screen. If it still fills the screen, you did not resize.
Phone gallery shows all photos big because the screen zooms. Check properties. Width. 200. Then upload.
That recruitment form took the photo. Rest of the form was still a jungle. But the photo box was done. Resize Image, checker, maybe compress. No Photoshop. Tea after.
