This splitter takes from-to. It is not the Adobe trick where you burst every page into twenty small files in one click. I say that in the first line so you do not waste a afternoon looking for a burst button. There is no burst button here. You type a start page and a end page. You download that range. If you need each page separate, you repeat. Page 1 to 1. Then 2 to 2. Then 3 to 3. Boring. It works.
I needed page 4 out of a 12 page scan for a clerk who only wanted the fee receipt. I put from 4, to 4. Download. One page pdf. He was happy. That is the simple case. The hard case is a teacher who wants every assignment page as its own file for a folder. Then you repeat. Make tea. Repeat again.

Open Split PDF. Drop one pdf. Type from. Type to. Download. The file stays in your browser. We do not keep it. If the pdf is over 20 mb the site will refuse. Fat HP scan, you know the story. Make a lighter copy first, or split on a machine that can open the heavy file in Adobe.
Range means inclusive, the way I use it. From 2 to 3 is page 2 and page 3. From 2 to 2 is only page 2. If you type from 2 to 1 the tool should not give you a magic reverse. Put the smaller number first. I typed backwards once, got a empty feeling and a error. Fine. Type it again.
Why range only. Browser tools stay small. Burst into 40 files means 40 downloads or a zip. Zip in the browser is extra moving parts. We kept range. Honest about it. If you need burst every day, you want a desktop app. If you need burst once a semester, repeating 8 times is cheaper than installing something on a lab PC you do not control.
I work in a small office. Our typical split is not 40 pages. It is “give me the last two pages” or “give me page 1 only, that is the covering letter”. Range is perfect. Students who scanned a whole practical file and need experiment 3 only, range is perfect. Experiment 3 is pages 9 to 12. From 9 to 12. Done.
Count pages first if the scan has no numbers on the paper. PDF Page Count tells you how many. Then you open the pdf on the phone, swipe, note that the receipt is page 7. Then split 7 to 7. Guessing 6 to 6 and sending the wrong table is a extra trip to the university window.
Password pdf. Split will not open it. Unlock first on your side. I cannot do magic on a locked file in a tab.
Upside down pages. Split does not rotate. If page 4 is upside down, split it, then Rotate PDF on that small file. Rotating the whole 12 page file also works if all pages need the same turn. Usually only the one page from the feeder is wrong.
Repeat for one page at a time if you must
You must, when a portal asks one file per document. Page 1 photo. Page 2 address. Page 3 signature. Silly portal. They still exist. You split 1-1, download, rename photo.pdf. Split 2-2, download, rename address.pdf. Do not keep all as download.pdf. You will mix them. I mix them. That is why I rename immediately.
Same tab. Change the from-to. Download again. You do not need to re-drop the file every time if the file is still sitting there. If you reloaded the page, drop again. Cheap phones reload when you switch apps. Stay on the tab till you finish the set.
Eight pages, eight files. Put them in a folder. Name with a number in front. 01-photo, 02-address. Sorting by name then matches the portal order. If you name them by what they are without numbers, Windows sorts in a way that annoys you.
I timed it once. Eight repeats, about six minutes including renaming. Burst in Acrobat is one minute. We did not have Acrobat on that PC. Six minutes is fine. Do not stand in the government queue and try this on a dying battery. Do it at home. Carry the eight files on a pen drive.
If you only need one page, do not repeat. One range. People overwork. They split 1-1 then 2-2 then 3-3 then they merge 1 and 2 again. Why. If you needed 1 to 2, split 1 to 2 once. The repeat method is only for one page per file.
Merge after split. Sometimes you split out the wrong extra page, then you want it back in another order. Merge PDF can join the small files. First file on top. Arrows if you dropped wrong. Do not create a loop of split merge split because you are nervous. Decide the order on paper. A sticky note. Then click.
When range is enough and when it is not
Enough. Extract a chapter. Extract the signed last page. Extract a fee receipt stuck in the middle. Extract pages 2 and 3 from a 12 page file, which is a thing students search, I have heard that search in the office when someone read a title out loud. From 2 to 3.
Not enough. You want page 1, 5, and 9 as one pdf, skipping the rest. Range cannot skip. You would split 1-1, 5-5, 9-9, then merge those three. Three splits and a merge. Still doable. A bit of patience. If you do this every hour, get a better tool for work. If you do this twice a year, use this.
Not enough. You want 40 separate files named by page number automatically. We will not auto name 40 downloads. Browser will ask you where to save, or dump into downloads. Repeat is honest. Automatic burst is a different product.
Scan of a book. Do not drop a 80 page book at 600 dpi. The tab will cry. 20 mb gate. Photo the chapter you need instead. Make a small pdf. Split if you still need a piece.
After split, open the small pdf. Confirm it is the receipt, not the previous page that looked similar. Two fee tables in one file, I have sent the wrong year. The clerk did not laugh. Check the date on the page.
If the result is still heavy, the page was a fat image. Split does not compress. You split a 20 mb file into a 5 mb page that is still one fat photo. For email, photo the paper again, Compress Image, JPG to PDF. Split is for cutting pages, not for diet.
I tell new people in the office: from and to. Write the numbers on a chit. Then type. Then open. Then send. If they ask where is extract all pages, I say there is not. Repeat if you must. Range if you can. That is the tool we have, and it is the tool that matches what most windows actually asked for, which is two pages, not forty.
