Jaipur municipal counter. Summer. The clerk had a printed list and a red pen. I had a 12 page pdf on my phone. Agreement, ID, a map, extra annexures the lawyer stuffed in. Clerk said I need page 2 and 3 only. The affidavit part. Do not give me the whole bundle. He will not print 12 pages for a two page check.
I tried to show him the phone and scroll. He is not scrolling 12 pages on my cracked screen. He wants a file. Or a print of two pages. Either way I needed only 2 and 3 out of 12.
I sat on the bench, opened Split PDF, typed from 2 to 3, downloaded. Printed those two. He took them. Next person. That is the dream ending. Getting there needs you to know this tool is a range split, not a magician that spits 12 separate files.
Clerk said do not send the whole bundle
Offices here like small paper. Kota university window, Ajmer tehsil, Udaipur bank. They ask for a particular page because their file has a format. Extra pages confuse the next clerk who files it. Also printer cost. Also they are tired.
If you email the whole 12 pages, they might stamp the wrong page. Then you run around. Split first.
I always count before I type numbers. Phones show a scroll. Easy to think the affidavit is page 2 when a cover is page 1 and a blank is hiding. PDF Page Count tells me it is 12 pages. Then I open the pdf and note: page 1 cover, page 2-3 affidavit, page 4 ID... I write it on a slip. Then I split 2 to 3.
If I type 2 to 2 I only get page 2. Clerk wanted 2 and 3. Range is from and to, inclusive. From 2 to 3. Both pages.
This tool is range only, not one-file-per-page. I cannot press a button and get 12 tiny pdfs. If I need page 2 and page 7, I split twice. Once 2 to 2, once 7 to 7. Then I Merge PDF those two if they want one file with both. A bit clumsy. For 2 and 3 together it is perfect. They are neighbours.
People get angry at range only. I got angry too. Then I used it anyway because the clerk was waiting. For neighbour pages, range is actually what you want.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. Good, because agreements have addresses and a lot of family drama. Browser tab. Download. Done.
Range split, download those pages
Open Split PDF. Drop the 12 page file. Type from page. Type to page. Download. Open the download. Confirm it is two pages. Confirm the text is the affidavit, not the map.
If the download is still 12 pages, you did not split. You downloaded the original. Check the filename. I have done this. Heart sank at the printer shop. Looked again, wrong file. The split one was sitting in Downloads with a new name.
From 1 to 12 gives you the same file more or less. Pointless. From 3 to 2 will not work. From must be smaller or equal. If you want one page, same number both boxes. Page 5 to 5.
Password pdf. If the 12 page file is locked, split may fail. Ask for an unlocked copy. Password pdfs may fail. The lawyer sent me a locked bundle once. I sat like a fool. He mailed the password. Then the tool still failed. Fresh export from his computer without lock. Then split worked.
20 MB browser limit. A 12 page colour scan can be huge. If the tab freezes, the file is too fat. Ask for a lighter pdf or photo the two pages you need and JPG to PDF. Clerk wanted those two. You do not have to honour the extra 10 pages if they are the reason the tool chokes.
Printers in Jaipur still ask “kitne copies”. Two pages, one copy, unless they say otherwise. Do not print the split file double side if they want to stamp both. Ask.
If the pages are upside down after split, the original was upside down. Split does not rotate. Rotate PDF on the original or on the split, 90 or 180, then print.
Count the pages first so you type the right numbers
PDF Page Count is my first stop when a lawyer says “12 page file”. Sometimes it is 13 because of a blank. Sometimes it is 11 and he rounded up. Numbers must match what I see.
I open the pdf. I look at the page number the reader shows, not the number printed on the paper. Printed “page 2 of affidavit” might be pdf page 4 if there is a cover and a vakalat. Clerk said pdf page 2 and 3 as he saw on his computer. I matched his screen when I could. When I could not, I matched the content. “The affidavit with the notary stamp.” That is safer than arguing page numbers.
Kota students split question papers. Teacher mailed 20 pages, need only the diagram page. Range. Send that. Teacher still has the full file. You send the bit they asked on WhatsApp.
Udaipur hotel. Guest agreement 8 pages. Accounts wants page 1 and the last page with signature. That is 1 to 1, then 8 to 8, then merge those two. Range only, two trips. Still faster than a desktop Adobe sitting on a machine that needs a password nobody remembers.
Ajmer shop licence scan, 6 pages, Nagar Nigam wants the ID page. Find it, split that one page. Do not give them your rent agreement by accident. I almost did. Page 4 looked similar in thumbnail.
Thumbnails lie when pages are similar forms. Open full. Read the heading.
If you split the wrong range, do it again. The original 12 page file is still there. Split is not a delete. I keep the original until the clerk stamps.
After you have page 2 and 3
I rename. affidavit-page2-3.pdf. I send or print. I do not keep calling it split-output.pdf. Next week I will not know.
If they later want page 2 to 5, I split again from original. I do not split from the already split two pages hoping extra pages appear. They will not.
Email the two pages if they asked email. Whole 12 page file bouncing on size is a different story. Two pages are light. Usually.
If two pages are still 15 mb, those two pages are fat images. Compress is not this split tool. Photograph, compress, jpg to pdf. Or rescan those two sheets only at the shop. “Sir, only these two, halka.”
I tell people clearly. This split is from page X to page Y. One output file. Not 12 outputs. For a clerk who wants 2 and 3, range is enough.
When the download opens and I see the notary stamp on page 1 of the new file, I relax. That was pdf page 2 of the old file.
Range. Count. Type 2 and 3. Download. Open. Print or send. Get to the counter before lunch closing. Jaipur counters close when they close.
